Responsibilities
- Own branch strategy, merge policy, propagation, validation, and exception handling across all development lanes.
- Define lifecycle contracts for development lanes, including synchronization, conflict resolution, and retirement criteria.
- Design and implement scalable change-management systems and policies across source control, CI/CD, validation, and release infrastructure.
- Identify dependencies and integration collisions, preserve change ordering and context, and provide traceable status, ownership, blockers, and recovery paths.
- Automate merge actions, propagation, backports, cleanup, notifications, and target-lane validation.
- Study cross-disciplinary workflows and reduce unnecessary ceremony, waiting, and specialist dependencies.
- Measure flow health, convert incidents and manual practices into improved tooling and operating policies, and coordinate critical operations across technical teams.
- Mentor and develop junior team members in release engineering and infrastructure practices.
Requirements
- Highly experienced hands-on engineer with a record of technical leadership on cross-functional programs.
- Strong background in source control systems, branch strategies, merge queues, and CI/CD infrastructure.
- Experience designing and operating technical systems for development teams at organizational scale.
- Experience with release management, validation policy, and deployment infrastructure in complex product environments.
- Ability to balance speed, stability, and delivery goals and communicate technical tradeoffs to senior leaders and teams.
- Strong communication and influencing skills across engineering, art, design, QA, production, and other teams without direct authority.
- Track record of automating and documenting manual, repetitive processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
- Ability to analyze source control history, diagnose CI and integration failures, and prototype supporting tooling.
- Bonus: game development experience, especially with Unity or large monorepos; Git LFS and binary or non-mergeable asset experience; high-volume merge queue experience; simultaneous live release experience; complex content pipeline experience; DevOps, build infrastructure, platform engineering, or developer productivity experience.
