Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end machine learning lifecycle, including dataset and model design, development, evaluation, deployment, evolution, and monitoring.
- Build lightweight data pipelines and dbt tables that transform raw data into model-ready datasets without owning heavy ETL infrastructure.
- Develop ML applications for property-level and portfolio-wide insurance risk prediction, cost assessment, and aerial image analysis.
- Provide metrics and visibility into model quality, bias, performance, and business impact.
- Contribute to ML architecture, tooling, engineering standards, and strategy as an early member of the dedicated ML team.
- Partner with Engineering, Product, Operations, and Business teams to deliver reliable solutions that address real-world problems.
- Write clean, maintainable code using the company’s event-driven application stack and AI-assisted development tools.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience applying machine learning methods to production problems.
- Experience working end to end from raw, unexplored data through pipelines or dbt tables, feature engineering, modeling, deployment, and monitoring.
- Ability to work effectively in a complex codebase and take ownership of ambiguous business problems with high autonomy.
- Product-oriented mindset focused on applying modeling and evaluation techniques to measurable business outcomes.
- Experience or willingness to use Python, Kafka, AWS EKS, Django or FastAPI, Postgres, GitHub Actions, and dbt in production systems.
- Preferred: team leadership or end-to-end deployment ownership experience.
- Preferred: actuarial experience or experience with risk evaluation and aggregation problems.
- Preferred: computer vision or image analysis experience.
- Preferred: dbt or similar modern data transformation tool experience.
