Responsibilities
- Define and drive the long-term architectural direction for the Content Platform media pipeline.
- Lead large-scale, multi-quarter technical initiatives across multiple squads and organizations.
- Guide architecture across media ingestion, transcoding, packaging, storage, content delivery, and playback.
- Partner with engineering managers, product managers, and senior engineers on technical strategy, reliability, product priorities, and cost efficiency.
- Author and review RFCs, architecture decision records, and technical design documents.
- Mentor senior engineers and improve technical quality, architectural thinking, and engineering excellence.
- Evaluate the effects of media architecture decisions on compute, storage, CDN utilization, and platform sustainability.
Requirements
- Deep expertise building large-scale media platforms spanning audio, video, encoding, transcoding, packaging, delivery, and playback technologies.
- Demonstrated success leading architecture across multiple engineering teams and influencing technical direction beyond an immediate organization.
- Significant experience designing and operating internet-scale distributed systems, including high-throughput media processing, large-scale storage, and globally distributed delivery infrastructure.
- Understanding of trade-offs among codecs, packaging formats, playback technologies, storage, networking, and infrastructure costs.
- Strong record of leading multi-quarter technical initiatives from proposal through implementation and organization-wide adoption.
- Ability to communicate technical ideas through RFCs, design documents, and architectural decision records.
- Strong collaboration and technical credibility across teams with different priorities.
- Enjoyment of mentoring experienced engineers and helping organizations develop technical capability.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure providers, CDN vendors, and large-scale media delivery ecosystems is highly valued.
