Responsibilities
- Own and improve the Bazel build system for a multi-language monorepo, keeping builds fast, reliable, hermetic, reproducible, and easy to use.
- Design and roll out remote caching and remote build execution, and optimize build and test performance across developer machines and CI.
- Maintain rules, toolchains, dependencies, and cross-compilation support for C++, Python, and Go, including embedded targets.
- Improve developer workflows involving builds, linting, code coverage, testing, change submission, integration testing, and dependency management.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve the CI system using AWS and Buildkite.
- Develop and support automation tools and services for common developer workflows.
- Build monitoring services, dashboards, and alerts for build health, cache hit rates, flaky tests, CI performance, and internal system stability.
- Participate in support and on-call rotations and respond to issues affecting shared developer infrastructure.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience maintaining Bazel or a comparable system such as Buck or Pants in a multi-language monorepo, including rules, macros, toolchains, and build/cache debugging.
- Working knowledge of C++ build toolchains, including compilers, linkers, sysroots, and cross-compilation.
- Strong knowledge of build systems and software development tools such as Git, GitHub, code review, linting, testing frameworks, and deployment frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD practices and principles, with Buildkite experience preferred.
- Experience developing tools and services in Python or Go.
- Experience using Linux in development and operational environments.
- Knowledge of AWS or comparable cloud platforms; Terraform experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of on-call support processes, incident management, and monitoring tooling.
- Experience with remote caching and remote execution systems such as BuildBuddy, EngFlow, Buildbarn, or NativeLink is preferred.
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or a modern frontend framework sufficient to maintain simple internal tools and dashboards is preferred.
About Glydways
