Responsibilities
- Deploy, upgrade, scale, and operate PostgreSQL and Kafka clusters on cloud and bare-metal Kubernetes using CloudNativePG, Strimzi, Helm, and Kubernetes operators.
- Manage declarative infrastructure with Argo CD or Flux, Helm, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines for database, Kafka, schema, and operator changes.
- Design and operate regional high availability and cross-region disaster recovery, including PostgreSQL replicas, backups, point-in-time recovery, Kafka MirrorMaker 2, RPO/RTO targets, and failover drills.
- Provide secure self-service provisioning of databases, users, topics, and ACLs for product teams through code.
- Build monitoring and alerting for replication lag, backups, consumer lag, and capacity, and participate in on-call and incident reviews.
- Implement TLS/mTLS, secrets management, network policies, Kafka ACLs, tenant isolation, and identity integration.
- Operate Debezium and Kafka Connect outbox and change-data-capture pipelines between global and regional systems.
- Write automation and small services in Go or Python and partner with application teams on schema standards and performance troubleshooting.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, platform, or infrastructure engineering, including 3+ years operating stateful production systems.
- Strong hands-on Kubernetes operations experience, including StatefulSets, persistent volumes, storage classes, pod disruption budgets, scheduling, affinity, network policies, and cluster upgrades.
- Production experience operating PostgreSQL and/or Kafka through Kubernetes operators and authoring and maintaining Helm charts.
- Day-to-day experience with Argo CD or Flux, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.
- Practical PostgreSQL administration experience with replication, failover, backups, point-in-time recovery, PgBouncer, version upgrades, and performance troubleshooting.
- Production Kafka operations experience covering brokers, topics, partitions, replication, consumer groups, monitoring, and capacity planning.
- Experience designing and testing high availability and disaster recovery for stateful systems with defined RPO/RTO targets.
- Strong programming and scripting skills in Go or Python and Bash.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred experience includes cross-region replication, Debezium, Kafka Connect, transactional outbox and CDC patterns, Keycloak, OIDC, LDAP/Active Directory, observability stacks, Vault/OpenBao, cert-manager, mTLS, bare-metal infrastructure, Ceph or object storage, GPU/AI infrastructure, related open-source contributions, and SOC 2 or ISO 27001 environments.
