Responsibilities
- Lead system design and hands-on delivery of a data-intensive web product on Microsoft Azure.
- Own services, APIs, the Next.js layer, integrations, security, and production behavior under load.
- Write code for critical paths and own features from design through production.
- Design data modeling, SQL performance, caching, pagination, aggregation, search, and asynchronous processing for large data volumes.
- Ship dashboards, reports, and data exploration experiences on existing data platforms.
- Choose and document architectural patterns including modular monoliths, microservices, synchronous systems, and event-driven systems.
- Set standards for authentication, authorization, observability, automated testing, code review, and continuous delivery.
- Partner with teams responsible for ingestion, pipelines, and the data platform.
- Make explicit trade-offs involving performance, consistency, security, cost, resilience, and operational complexity.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or another quantitative field.
- Experience as a Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Software Architect, or equivalent designing and shipping large-scale, high-performance web applications and backend systems.
- Proven production-scale system design experience covering service boundaries, data flow, consistency, failure modes, and architectural trade-offs.
- Deep hands-on Java experience, plus Go and/or Python where appropriate.
- Working knowledge of TypeScript, React, and Next.js sufficient to shape and contribute to the web application.
- Production experience with Microsoft Azure, API and integration design, and distributed systems involving queues, events, idempotency, consistency, resilience, and fault tolerance.
- Strong SQL, data modeling, query optimization, NoSQL, caching, and search experience, including making data-heavy UIs and APIs performant.
- Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, containers, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, and production diagnosis using logs, metrics, and traces.
- Preferred experience includes analytics or BI products, conversational interfaces, multi-tenant systems, Domain-Driven Design, feature flags, and progressive delivery.
- Master's degree or PhD is a plus.
