Responsibilities
- Design and develop robust, high-performance backend features and core services for Navan’s flagship corporate expense platform.
- Scale systems supporting global commerce, payments, issuing platforms, money ledgers, policy management, administrative controls, and accounting integrations.
- Own customer-facing features end to end, including design, development, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational support.
- Solve large-scale engineering challenges involving reliability, performance, scalability, and user experience.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and business leaders across global, cross-functional teams.
- Champion code quality, documentation, monitoring, testing, scalability, and other engineering best practices.
Requirements
- 4–6 years of experience building and scaling complex systems in fast-paced, high-growth, or large-scale environments; exceptional candidates with less experience may be considered.
- Hands-on experience developing and maintaining consumer-facing or core business products at scale.
- Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot, with a solid understanding of JVM performance and optimization.
- Strong experience with distributed systems, microservices, API design, and AWS or other cloud platforms.
- Record of delivering production-quality, maintainable code and supporting features after release through monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience leveraging AI models and AI-driven development to build intelligent, automated features and improve engineering productivity.
- Fintech payment systems experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong collaboration, problem-solving, ownership, documentation, testing, scalability, and code-quality skills.
