Responsibilities
- Build highly available, secure, distributed systems in a microservice architecture.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain systems representing logistics entities such as shippers, clients, cargo, documents, carriers, containers, and email.
- Collaborate with engineers on complex business and technical problems.
- Work with business partners and product managers to translate complex business problems into technical solutions.
- Build and launch products rapidly and incrementally.
- Maintain a high quality bar by monitoring metrics and applying lessons from post-mortems.
- Own the design and development of key parts of Flexport’s forwarding systems and influence subsystem design.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience writing software and a strong engineering background.
- At least 2 years of design and architecture knowledge, including familiarity with object-oriented analysis and design patterns.
- Knowledge of at least one of Ruby, C, C++, Java, or Kotlin.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience building large-scale, high-performance systems in complex, multi-tiered, distributed environments is preferred.
- Understanding of performance tradeoffs, load balancing, and operational issues is preferred.
- Familiarity with professional software engineering practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operations, is preferred.
- Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, learning, and action-oriented qualities are preferred.
