Responsibilities
- Design, estimate, and implement technical solutions for medium- and high-complexity applications.
- Analyze, refactor, redesign, and consolidate C applications during the AIX-to-Linux and cloud migration.
- Participate in all phases of the application development lifecycle.
- Collaborate with stakeholders on requirements, processes, architecture, priorities, and technical solutions.
- Review development work, recommend engineering standards and tools, and propose improvements.
- Identify and escalate development risks and issues.
- Take responsibility for others’ work and allocate resources.
- Influence teams, customers, and suppliers while making decisions affecting project and team objectives.
- Communicate solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Share project knowledge and apply relevant technologies, practices, and tools.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on software development experience with strong, demonstrable expertise in plain C.
- Strong UNIX experience across AIX and RedHat Linux, including porting and refactoring applications between them.
- Experience with Korn/ksh and Bash shell scripting for build, run, and deployment tasks.
- Proficiency with Make/Makefiles, gcc, gdb, and core-dump analysis.
- Experience refactoring and consolidating applications, including redesign during a migration.
- Ability to work autonomously, take end-to-end ownership, and communicate effectively.
- Nice-to-have experience with SQL, DB2, Oracle, Pro*C, ESQL/C, sockets, TCP/IP, IPC, Git, GitHub, Harness, Jenkins, AWS, Linux administration, Docker, Terraform, external clients, and third-party systems.
- Helpful domain knowledge includes payments or financial transaction processing, ISO 8583, card and transaction switching, and PCI DSS.
- Familiarity with cross-platform concerns such as endianness, data-type sizes, and compiler differences between AIX POWER and Linux x86.
