Responsibilities
- Design and build advertising and marketing platform features that help eBay sellers and advertisers grow their businesses.
- Develop scalable, highly available applications, APIs, and services using Marko, React, Node.js, Java, and Scala.
- Own complex features end to end from technical design and architecture through deployment, production support, and continuous improvement.
- Lead technical decisions, system design, design reviews, and cross-team alignment for scalable and reliable distributed systems.
- Use AI-assisted development tools for coding, debugging, testing, and code review.
- Collaborate with ML engineers on LLM integrations, recommendation systems, and intelligent campaign optimization.
- Mentor team members and help shape engineering best practices across the organization.
Requirements
- BS/BA in Computer Science or a related field plus 8+ years of work experience, or an MS plus 6+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot or similar frameworks, including Java 17 or later.
- Experience building scalable backend systems and RESTful APIs in distributed environments.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Experience with relational or NoSQL databases, schema design, and query optimization, including technologies such as Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, Cassandra, or MongoDB.
- Familiarity with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or Flink.
- Experience owning end-to-end system design, writing technical design documents, leading design reviews, and evaluating scalability, availability, latency, and cost tradeoffs.
- Experience with AI-assisted development practices and tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code.
- Experience building or integrating LLM-powered features, agentic workflows, or production AI automation is advantageous.
- Exposure to GraphQL and federated GraphQL APIs is highly desirable.
- Open-source contribution experience is a plus.
- Strong ownership and collaboration skills are expected.
