Responsibilities
- Own backend features end to end from specification and implementation through testing, monitoring, and production operation.
- Write precise specifications, resolve ambiguity, and use AI-assisted engineering tools in daily development.
- Create tests, exercise failure cases, and provide evidence of correctness through pull requests and coverage gating.
- Review code, identify design problems, mentor engineers, and pair on complex changes.
- Participate in on-call rotations, own incidents, document follow-up actions, and reduce operational toil.
- Work safely in unfamiliar code, coordinate dependencies directly with other teams, and improve instrumentation.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience building and running production software with ownership after release.
- 5+ years of experience with Perl or PHP.
- 5+ years of experience with relational databases.
- Depth in at least one part of a production system and the ability to understand unfamiliar code and diffs.
- Hands-on daily experience with AI-assisted engineering, precise specification, and critical review of generated code.
- Experience writing tests, gating changed code coverage, and catching defects through testing.
- Experience participating in production on-call rotations, owning incidents, and contributing to corrective write-ups.
- Clear written communication in a remote, distributed, multi-time-zone team.
- Preferred: 5+ years of experience with CDN, WAF, and server security.
- Preferred: experience in managed hosting, cloud, or another high-availability service business.
