Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver large-scale travel platform components covering search, pricing and availability aggregation, booking flows, and content systems.
- Design and build scalable distributed systems for real-time travel inventory and pricing.
- Architect APIs for client applications supporting search, booking, and trip management.
- Contribute to technical design, implementation, testing, and product ideation.
- Integrate with OTAs, GDSs, suppliers, and other external travel partners.
- Collaborate with Product, Data, and UX teams on the ShopBack Travel experience.
- Drive engineering best practices, mentor engineers, and raise technical standards.
- Analyze complex requirements, propose pragmatic solutions, and communicate trade-offs.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience building consumer-facing platforms or distributed backend systems.
- Travel or OTA experience is strongly preferred, including experience with flight metasearch, hotel aggregation, activity marketplaces, travel content platforms, or GDS/LCC/API integrations.
- Experience with flight or hotel domains such as availability, fare rules, rates and inventory, ranking or relevance, caching, or booking orchestration is advantageous.
- Hands-on experience with Node.js or other backend technologies.
- Experience deploying applications to cloud environments, with AWS highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of API design, microservices, and event-driven architecture.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, technically complex, and ambiguous environment.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, including collaboration with third-party partners.
- Demonstrated use of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Cursor, or Claude to improve development workflows and productivity.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
