Responsibilities
- Define Windows Fundamentals metrics, queries, cohort strategies, and measurement workflows across reliability, performance, responsiveness, power, battery life, memory, and storage.
- Design, build, deploy, and operate backend services and data pipelines for telemetry ingestion, transformation, orchestration, storage, monitoring, diagnostics, and engineering workflows.
- Improve service reliability, security, compliance, observability, data quality, schema evolution, deployment safety, incident response, and operational support.
- Analyze telemetry, diagnostic signals, and traces to identify trends, anomalies, regressions, causal factors, and customer impact.
- Investigate metric movements and service issues using statistical methods, experimentation, debugging, and performance-analysis tools.
- Deliver automation, AI-assisted analysis, dashboards, alerts, and diagnostic workflows that reduce manual engineering effort.
- Contribute to technical designs and code reviews, coordinate with partner teams, share findings, and mentor less-experienced engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
- At least three years of software engineering experience and a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least one year of experience in backend service development, data engineering, distributed systems, large-scale analytics, systems analysis, or related work.
- Experience developing, testing, deploying, or operating reliable production software, services, data pipelines, telemetry systems, or analytics.
- Experience with distributed services, Azure or other cloud platforms, data pipelines, operating systems, performance engineering, or large-scale fleet analytics.
- Experience defining metrics, establishing baselines and cohorts, investigating regressions, and communicating insights through dashboards or technical reports.
- Experience with telemetry schemas, service APIs, orchestration, monitoring and alerting, data-quality controls, anomaly detection, or automated diagnostic workflows.
- Experience with Kusto, Azure data platforms, privacy-conscious telemetry, statistical analysis, machine learning, AI-assisted engineering workflows, or Windows internals.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud background check.
