Responsibilities
- Define the long-term technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for data services teams.
- Lead the design and evolution of highly available, scalable, secure, and operationally efficient NoSQL platforms.
- Diagnose and resolve production issues involving performance, queries, replication, availability, capacity, and operations.
- Build tooling, automation, and platform capabilities that improve reliability, performance, observability, developer productivity, and operational simplicity.
- Partner with application engineering teams to design and optimize database architectures for distributed, high-throughput workloads.
- Establish technical standards, reference architectures, and operational patterns for database usage across the organization.
- Influence senior technical and business stakeholders on strategy, trade-offs, risks, and execution plans.
- Mentor principal and senior engineers across database engineering, distributed systems, performance engineering, and production operations.
Requirements
- At least 12 years of software, infrastructure, or database engineering experience, with significant depth in database systems.
- Deep hands-on expertise with database systems at scale, preferably NoSQL databases, including strong knowledge of database internals.
- Experience debugging and operating complex, highly available, high-throughput, and low-latency database deployments in production.
- Experience designing and operating database platforms with reliability, availability, backup and restore, disaster recovery, observability, security, and compliance capabilities.
- Strong systems engineering background covering distributed systems, concurrency, networking, storage, failure modes, and capacity planning.
- Experience building automation, tooling, or platform capabilities around open-source or commercial database systems.
- Ability to define technical strategy, drive architecture across teams, and influence large-scale engineering direction.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Track record of mentoring engineers, reviewing architecture, and raising engineering standards.
- Strong programming experience in one or more systems or platform languages such as Java, Python, C++, or Go.
- Minimum qualification is either a bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 6 years of experience or 8 years of relevant experience.
- Preferred qualifications include a master's degree with 4 years of experience and knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility practices.
