Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable, maintainable, data-driven systems and data processes.
- Own a membership application end to end, from design and development through testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- Build and maintain stable, observable data pipelines capable of handling large data volumes.
- Improve continuous integration speed, efficiency, and scalability through automation using Python, SQL, RESTful APIs, and related frameworks.
- Apply software architecture patterns such as distributed systems and microservices.
- Consult on database design, write queries, and modify table definitions as needed.
- Use Git, Jira, and AWS while applying CI/CD principles.
- Create engineering standards and document systems.
- Review code and collaborate with software and data engineers on design and implementation.
- Coach and mentor junior engineers and provide design guidance.
- Partner with stakeholders to assess technical feasibility, estimate work, and identify dependencies.
- Identify and share improvements to products and engineering processes.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of progressive experience developing software products in an Agile or iterative development environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Information Management; a master’s degree is preferred but not required.
- Senior-level engineering experience including mentoring and design guidance.
- Direct experience with data modeling, data architecture, and SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Strong experience building and maintaining high-volume data pipelines and data processes.
- Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and web services for internal and external use.
- Proficiency with Scala, Python, Python data libraries, SQL, and scripting languages such as HTML, JavaScript, or Shell.
- Experience with a data-processing framework such as Spark, Flink, or similar.
- AWS or equivalent cloud experience.
- Experience with automated unit-testing and acceptance-testing frameworks.
- Experience with source-code version control, preferably Git and GitHub or GitLab.
- Working knowledge of the software development lifecycle, CI/CD pipelines, and test-driven development.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes, including EKS, is a plus.
- Experience with Terraform is a plus.
- Healthcare industry experience, especially membership, eligibility, or benefits data, is a plus.
- Experience owning core data or platform infrastructure at scale, improving engineering productivity, or working with reliability, performance optimization, or distributed systems is a plus.
