Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable, maintainable, data-driven systems and data processes.
- Own a membership application from detailed design and development through testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
- Build and maintain stable, observable data pipelines capable of handling large data volumes.
- Improve the speed, efficiency, and scalability of the continuous integration environment using Python, SQL, RESTful APIs, and other frameworks.
- Apply distributed-systems and microservices architecture patterns to create reusable and maintainable software.
- Consult on database design, write queries, and modify table definitions as needed.
- Use Git, Jira, and AWS in support of CI/CD practices.
- Create engineering standards and system documentation.
- Review code and collaborate with software and data engineers on design and implementation.
- Coach and mentor junior engineers and provide design guidance.
- Partner with stakeholders to assess technical feasibility, estimate work, and identify dependencies or schedule risks.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of progressive experience developing software products.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Information Management; a master’s degree is preferred but not required.
- Experience working as a senior engineer, including mentoring and providing design guidance.
- Direct experience with data modeling and data architecture, including SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Strong experience building and maintaining high-volume data pipelines and data processes.
- Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and web services for internal and external use.
- Proficiency with Scala, Python, NumPy, Pandas, SQL databases, and scripting languages such as SQL, HTML, JavaScript, or Shell.
- Experience with a data processing framework such as Spark or Flink.
- AWS or equivalent cloud experience.
- Experience with automated unit-testing and acceptance-testing frameworks.
- Experience with source-code version control, preferably Git and GitHub or GitLab.
- Working knowledge of the software development lifecycle, CI/CD pipelines, and test-driven development.
- Docker and Kubernetes, including EKS, are a plus.
- Terraform experience is a plus.
- Healthcare industry experience, especially with membership, eligibility, or benefits data, is a plus.
- Experience owning core data or platform infrastructure at scale, improving engineering productivity, and working with reliability, performance optimization, or large-scale distributed systems is preferred.
