Base Salary
$145k - $175k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs using Python, Flask, and FastAPI.
- Design and implement REST endpoints for web and mobile clients with scalability and maintainability in mind.
- Model data, write efficient queries, and make schema and indexing decisions using PostgreSQL and MySQL.
- Integrate payment processors, credit bureaus, messaging services, and analytics tools.
- Write maintainable code and provide constructive code reviews.
- Apply best practices for testing, security, performance, and safe releases.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Frontend Engineering, QA, and engineering management to ship user-focused improvements.
- Debug complex issues and improve understanding of the backend architecture.
- Contribute to documentation, team rituals, continuous improvement, and technical mentoring.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, including meaningful ownership of production backend services.
- Strong working knowledge of Python and web application fundamentals.
- Solid understanding of REST APIs, backend-to-client and system-to-system communication, and API design tradeoffs.
- Comfort with Git, code review, and collaborative software development workflows.
- Track record of writing reliable, tested, secure, and maintainable code.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience is preferred.
- Experience with Flask or FastAPI in production is preferred.
- Experience with SQL, relational database design, and performance tuning is preferred.
- Experience with AWS, Docker, or production message queues is preferred.
- Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives is preferred.
- Projects demonstrating backend craftsmanship and system design thinking are preferred.
