Base Salary
$145k - $175k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs using Python, Flask, and FastAPI.
- Design and implement endpoints for web and mobile clients with attention to scalability and maintainability.
- Model data and write efficient queries using relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL.
- Integrate with payment processors, credit bureaus, messaging systems, and analytics tools.
- Write maintainable code and provide constructive code reviews.
- Apply and reinforce practices for testing, security, performance, and safe releases.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Frontend Engineering, QA, and engineering management to scope and ship improvements.
- Debug complex issues and deepen the team’s understanding of the backend architecture.
- Contribute to documentation, team rituals, continuous improvement, and mentoring engineers.
Requirements
- At least five years of professional software engineering experience, including meaningful ownership of backend services in production.
- Strong working knowledge of Python and web application fundamentals.
- Solid understanding of REST APIs, backend service communication, and API design tradeoffs.
- Comfort with Git, code review, and collaborative software development workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to write reliable, tested, secure, and maintainable code.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and cross-functionally.
- Experience with Flask or FastAPI in production is preferred.
- Experience with agentic engineering tools such as Claude, OpenAI/Codex, or Copilot is preferred.
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience, is preferred.
- Strong SQL and relational database design experience, including performance tuning, is preferred.
- Production experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, containers such as Docker, or message queues is preferred.
- Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives is preferred.
