Base Salary
$191k - $239k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build network automation and orchestration systems for DigitalOcean’s global network infrastructure.
- Develop software for network provisioning, configuration management, device lifecycle management, validation, monitoring, telemetry, and automated remediation.
- Integrate DPUs, SmartNICs, programmable network infrastructure, network fabrics, routing infrastructure, and vendor systems.
- Build abstractions and tools that improve network diagnosis, operational workflows, reliability, and scalability.
- Lead high-impact projects from technical design through implementation, deployment, and long-term operation.
- Establish technical direction, make architectural decisions, author RFCs and design documents, and drive alignment across teams.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across the engineering organization.
Requirements
- Significant experience designing and building production software systems at scale.
- Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, API design, concurrency, testing, observability, and reliability.
- Strong programming experience in one or more of Go, Python, or C++.
- Experience building automation, orchestration, or infrastructure platforms.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, BGP, EVPN/VXLAN, VLANs, routing, switching, and network telemetry.
- Experience with network devices, network automation frameworks, APIs, or vendor SDKs.
- Ability to design systems that operate safely in highly available production environments and translate complex infrastructure problems into scalable architectures.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills, including experience producing RFCs, architecture documents, technical proposals, project plans, and implementation plans.
- Ability to influence technical decisions and lead without relying on organizational authority.
- Preferred experience includes DPUs, SmartNICs, IPUs, SONiC, white-box networking, 400G+ datacenter networks, OpenConfig, gNMI, NETCONF, YANG, streaming telemetry, Kubernetes, eBPF, P4, programmable data planes, hardware-accelerated networking, or open-source infrastructure projects.
