
Staff Software Engineer – Apex Platform for Network Observability and Cybersecurity

Responsibilities
- Develop the Apex reporting platform for hyperscale, high-availability, cloud-native network monitoring deployments.
- Design and implement complex solutions in a large, mature C++ codebase.
- Model data and tune query performance across Postgres SQL, Parquet, time-series, columnar, and other database technologies.
- Own features end to end, including implementation, testing, and delivery.
- Balance refactoring and in-place fixes while advocating for sound architecture and long-term codebase health.
- Mentor engineers and raise team practices and code quality.
- Use AI-assisted tools for design, code review, refactoring, and testing without sacrificing quality.
- Debug and test complex software while anticipating side effects in legacy code.
- Collaborate with QA and participate in backlog refinement, planning, and delivery.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
- At least 7 years of experience and a record as a top-performing individual contributor.
- Strong C/C++ skills covering algorithm design, data structures, and design patterns.
- Experience with large, complex, or legacy codebases and judgment about when to fix versus refactor.
- Strong grounding in big-data modeling and distributed software design.
- Experience driving software development in an Agile environment and mentoring engineers.
- Experience debugging and testing complex software.
- Comfort using AI coding assistants such as Claude or GitHub Copilot.
- Preferred: experience with Microsoft Visual Studio, Linux, Windows, Docker, SQL, NoSQL, time-series, columnar, and distributed databases.
- Preferred: knowledge of TCP/IP networking, OSI Layer 7 protocols, storage, CPU, memory, networking, acceleration, REST APIs, event streaming, message queues, cloud-native architectures, and AI/LLM-based tools.
