Responsibilities
- Own and improve the telemetry data pipeline spanning AWS IoT Core, Kafka, TimescaleDB, and legacy GCP Pub/Sub.
- Design and evolve secure, low-latency GraphQL and REST APIs and maintain the BFF layer for web and mobile clients.
- Reduce infrastructure and observability costs, latency, and throughput bottlenecks as the device fleet scales.
- Improve Kafka partitioning, consumer groups, batching, backpressure, hot-path isolation, and pipeline reliability.
- Use Grafana for query analysis, pipeline monitoring, and proactive alerting.
- Execute safe live-system migrations using parallel writes, shadow validation, staged cutovers, and rollback.
- Participate in incident response, production health improvements, code review, and cross-functional delivery with firmware, service, and commercial teams.
Requirements
- 5–10 years of experience building and operating production backend systems, including substantial high-throughput streaming or time-series data experience.
- Deep practical experience with Kafka partitioning, consumer groups, rebalancing, ordering, idempotency, schema evolution, SQL, and time-series databases such as TimescaleDB, ClickHouse, or InfluxDB.
- Experience designing secure, low-latency GraphQL and REST APIs for web and mobile clients.
- Experience migrating live systems without downtime using parallel writes, shadow validation, staged cutover, and rollback.
- Fluency with TypeScript and Node.js, preferably NestJS, plus production AWS experience including ECS, IoT Core, networking, and Terraform or infrastructure as code.
- Ability to become productive in Go; prior Go experience is preferred but not required.
- Clear technical documentation, incident-management experience, strong communication, technical direction, and rigorous code review skills.
