Responsibilities
- Design and build platform systems such as load shedding, circuit breakers, and rate limiting
- Own ingress, egress, and traffic-flow concerns across the platform
- Define stable interfaces and libraries for other platform teams
- Lead end-to-end projects from scoping and design through rollout
- Partner with infrastructure teams to embed reliability into Asana’s architecture
- Debug complex cross-stack failures and prevent recurrence
- Share knowledge through code reviews, design discussions, and mentorship
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building and operating backend systems at scale
- Strong software engineering skills with production coding and systems design experience
- Familiarity with distributed systems patterns including backpressure, graceful degradation, and capacity planning
- Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure, Terraform, and monitoring tools such as Datadog or similar
- Experience defining and working within explicit reliability and performance targets for production systems
- Strong communication, collaboration, and trade-off navigation skills across platform and infrastructure teams
- Curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies and willingness to use them to improve productivity, collaboration, or decision-making
