Base Salary
$161k - $262k/yr
Responsibilities
- Act as a project or system leader by coordinating engineers and determining technical tasks.
- Lead engineering efforts and team-level processes by defining outcomes, refining processes, and providing technical guidance.
- Design, estimate, implement, and refactor secure, reliable, scalable software services.
- Own end-to-end design, implementation quality, performance, availability, and operational excellence of software components.
- Assess implementation alternatives and trade-offs and contribute recommendations to the technical engineering roadmap.
- Provide technical leadership for a small team, mentor engineers at all levels, and collaborate with product, engineering operations, business, and support teams.
- Improve engineering structures, processes, standards, and rigor while balancing time, quality, complexity, and risk.
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide operational and incident support.
- Represent PayPal in interactions with partners, customers, and industry organizations.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Advanced skills with RDBMS and NoSQL data stores, caching solutions, and messaging or queuing systems.
- Expertise building distributed backend services and systems.
- Experience building services on public cloud platforms, preferably AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Experience managing infrastructure as code with Terraform.
- Experience working with fault-tolerant and scalable distributed services and systems.
- Ability to lead projects, mentor engineers, and manage relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
