Base Salary
$182k - $260k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build a deep understanding of Rover’s transaction lifecycle, including orders, fees, credits, discounts, taxes, charges, refunds, and payouts.
- Set technical direction for the Commerce Platform and systems that other product teams build against.
- Turn unscoped, cross-team problems such as tax changes, new payment providers, and fee changes into aligned technical plans.
- Partner with Finance, Accounting, and Compliance to translate accounting and regulatory requirements into system designs.
- Improve engineering standards through design reviews, code reviews, reusable patterns, mentorship, and technical leadership.
- Lead hands-on engineering work while mentoring engineers and raising the technical bar across teams.
- Help ensure owners are charged or refunded correctly and sitters are paid accurately and on time.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience with software development best practices, system design, and architecture.
- Technical range across a modern web and mobile stack, including Python, Django, relational databases, React, and React Native.
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing technical direction and roadmaps across organizational boundaries.
- Ability to navigate complex, open-ended technical challenges across multi-system architectures and establish strategic direction.
- Experience using AI and agentic coding tools to improve engineering velocity and technical quality.
- Experience with large-scale, high-traffic consumer marketplace platforms.
- Commerce, payments, or other finance-critical domain experience is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with senior leaders, stakeholders, and external partners.
- Track record of mentoring engineers and leading technical interviews, including shaping candidate evaluation criteria.
