Base Salary
$230k - $270k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define and drive Betterment’s AI platform strategy, including shared infrastructure, evaluation frameworks, internal libraries, and guardrails.
- Build the foundation that enables Betterment teams to deploy AI features and lead projects that expand the organization’s AI capabilities.
- Partner with product teams to ship customer-facing AI functionality to production.
- Work with legal and compliance leaders to scale responsible AI development processes in a regulated financial services environment.
- Mentor and grow senior engineers while shaping technical direction with engineering leadership.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in LLM systems, including prompt engineering, agentic workflows, and evaluation systems.
- Experience operating AI features in production with online and offline validation, automated monitoring, and human-in-the-loop oversight.
- Proven track record leading successful projects affecting development workflows used by multiple teams.
- Full-stack development experience with React, GraphQL, and one or more server-side languages such as Ruby, Java, TypeScript, C#, or Python.
- Ability to establish strategic vision, work hands-on with senior and staff engineers, make sound build-versus-buy decisions, and collaborate across team boundaries.
- Pragmatic judgment about AI adoption and the ability to balance delivery speed, customer quality, and regulatory requirements.
