Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end reference infrastructure architecture for AI workloads across on-premises servers, public cloud, and GPU environments.
- Define workload placement and portability frameworks covering data gravity, sovereignty, latency, accelerator availability, cost, and re-engineering constraints.
- Chair design reviews, maintain architecture decision records, establish standards and guardrails, and approve significant AI platform designs.
- Design hybrid networking, federated identity, access models, cross-environment data architectures, private endpoints, replication, and residency controls.
- Build total-cost and unit-economics models comparing owned GPU capacity with cloud consumption and support buy-versus-build decisions.
- Advise and mentor software engineers, data scientists, ML engineers, platform engineers, product managers, security teams, and fellow architects.
- Embed security, compliance, resilience, and disaster-recovery patterns into platform architecture and drive architecture alignment across sites.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in software, infrastructure, or platform engineering, including at least 3 years in a dedicated architecture or solution architecture role and 3 years working on data, cloud, or AI/ML platforms or workloads.
- Demonstrated ownership of enterprise-scale hybrid or multi-cloud architectures spanning on-premises and public cloud environments from design through adoption.
- Deep expertise in at least one of AWS, Azure, or GCP, working knowledge of a second, and practical experience with on-premises and private cloud infrastructure.
- Strong experience with hybrid networking, including dedicated interconnects, transit and routing, DNS, private service endpoints, hybrid identity, and federation models.
- Experience designing cross-environment data architectures involving storage tiering, replication, caching, residency, and sovereignty constraints.
- Hands-on fluency with infrastructure-as-code and automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes tooling, plus working proficiency in Python.
- Track record of developing capacity and total-cost models for engineering, finance, and executive stakeholders.
- Strong architecture documentation, decision-record, communication, consensus-building, and stakeholder-influence skills.
- Recognized architecture certification such as AWS, Azure, or Google Professional Cloud Architect, TOGAF, or equivalent is a bonus.
- Familiarity with VMware, OpenShift, Nutanix, Azure Stack, AWS Outposts, observability and FinOps tooling, regulated environments, open-source infrastructure or ML tooling, and architecture publications or conference talks is a bonus.
Benefits
- Private medical insurance, income protection, life insurance, and an attractive pension scheme.
- Strong focus on work-life balance, learning, and development.
- Lenovo and Motorola product discounts, lifestyle discounts, holiday purchase, cycle-to-work, gym discounts, mortgage advice, financial wellbeing support, and an employee referral bonus.
- Hybrid working model with a 3:2 arrangement.
