Base Salary
$176k - $220k/yr
Responsibilities
- Shape long-term system architecture while balancing short-term functionality and long-term system health.
- Translate business goals into engineering projects and own technical roadmaps from conception through delivery.
- Manage cross-team dependencies, mitigate risks, and drive alignment across product, design, and operations.
- Improve observability, performance, technical debt, deployment practices, alerting, on-call health, and platform stability.
- Investigate root causes and build preventive safeguards for systems within and beyond the immediate scope.
- Mentor engineers, delegate stretch opportunities, lead cross-team reviews, and promote technical excellence.
- Participate in high-bar interviewing and Lyft’s broader internal engineering community.
Requirements
- BS/MS or equivalent practical experience in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of software engineering industry experience with demonstrated technical leadership and system ownership.
- Deep expertise designing, debugging, and operating fault-tolerant, highly available, large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience driving technical roadmaps, managing cross-team dependencies, and influencing system architecture at an organizational level.
- Knowledge of distributed systems, relational databases, and NoSQL databases.
- Experience with public cloud platforms and modern container orchestration technologies.
- Ability to communicate complex technical trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborative, cross-functional approach with a commitment to mentoring and developing engineers.
