Responsibilities
- Own complex distributed-system features end-to-end across satellite command and control, mission planning, mission data processing, and data analysis systems.
- Lead architectural improvements through hands-on implementation, prototyping, debugging, and technical execution.
- Develop and improve software for simulation, autonomy development, mission rehearsal, and operational test environments.
- Drive integration across embedded, distributed, and cloud-connected systems using C++, Elixir, TypeScript, backend services, distributed systems, developer tooling, and mission-critical infrastructure.
- Set software quality standards through code reviews, testing practices, and reference implementations.
- Partner with software, autonomy, hardware, test, and operations teams to improve engineering velocity and reduce technical friction.
- Diagnose reliability issues, address technical debt and architectural risks, and support anomaly response and operational debugging during critical mission events.
- Mentor engineers through technical reviews, debugging sessions, and collaborative system design.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of experience building complex software systems across embedded, backend, validation, and operational domains.
- Fluency with gRPC, RESTful, and WebSocket-based services, including integration debugging and API design discussions.
- Experience with low-level device drivers, safety-critical systems, embedded RTOS environments, simulation environments, autonomy and guidance/navigation/control algorithms, and complex multi-process, multi-threaded, or distributed systems.
- Experience supporting spacecraft, robotics, defense, or other mission-critical operational systems and evolving service architectures and internal infrastructure.
- Strong familiarity with Linux development and debugging environments.
- Ability to maintain or obtain TS/SCI clearance and meet applicable U.S. Government space technology export requirements.
- Preferred: master’s degree in computer science, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
- Preferred: 10+ years developing or producing flight software, GNC, simulation, or ground software for space applications.
- Preferred: expert-level Elixir and OTP knowledge, including BEAM internals, scheduling, process architecture, supervision strategies, and runtime characteristics.
- Preferred: experience building and shipping complex real-time systems with demanding reliability and performance requirements.
