Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to translate ideas into high-quality product experiences.
- Own and improve key components of the codebase, ensuring features are robust, secure, scalable, and maintainable.
- Build and optimize BioRender’s interactive, graphics-heavy canvas and other scientific visualization experiences.
- Design, build, and maintain frontend and backend services in a distributed architecture.
- Manage and visualize large volumes of scientific and usage data to support insights, performance improvements, and AI-driven features.
- Write testable, well-documented code; participate in code reviews and design critiques; and help evolve engineering best practices.
- Contribute technical insights, mentor team members, and support continuous team improvement.
Requirements
- 5–7+ years of full-stack software engineering experience, including ownership of features from concept through production.
- Proficiency with modern JavaScript frameworks such as ReactJS.
- Experience with NodeJS and ExpressJS.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS.
- Experience with MongoDB or NoSQL databases.
- Ability to build quality user interfaces using the web platform and UI frameworks such as React.
- Strong user focus, communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and ownership skills.
- Preferred: a science background and an analytical, data-driven approach to problem-solving.
- Preferred: mentoring experience, observability and metrics-driven design with Datadog, enterprise development experience, and AWS/Terraform infrastructure automation experience.
