Base Salary
$175k - $185k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable, performant Ruby on Rails backend services supporting high-throughput workloads and complex business logic.
- Own technical design and implementation of complex features from product requirements through deployment and monitoring.
- Diagnose performance bottlenecks, optimize database queries, and improve backend resilience under load.
- Drive architectural decisions and communicate technical recommendations and tradeoffs.
- Mentor Software Engineers I, II, and III through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.
- Improve practices for code quality, testing, observability, and deployment.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, QA, and engineering teams to translate product goals into technical solutions.
- Participate in the production on-call rotation, incident response, root cause analysis, and reliability improvements.
Requirements
- 5–8 years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience building production Ruby on Rails applications.
- Proven ability to own and deliver complex, multi-component features in a team environment.
- Experience designing and operating backend systems at significant scale and complexity.
- Expert-level Ruby on Rails proficiency and idiomatic Ruby development skills.
- Strong PostgreSQL experience, including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning at scale.
- Understanding of API design, serialization strategies, and versioning.
- Experience with Sidekiq or similar background job processing and asynchronous workflows.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation.
- Understanding of logging, metrics, tracing, and other observability practices.
- Working knowledge of Go and the ability to work across backend services.
- Ability to work autonomously on ambiguous problems, communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and context-switch between technical work and planning.
- Experience working in a fully remote engineering organization.
- AI-assisted development and engineering workflow integration experience is a preferred qualification.
- Must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer; visa sponsorship or transfer is unavailable.
