Base Salary
$175k - $185k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build performant, scalable Ruby on Rails backend services supporting rewards, incentives, loyalty programs, and other high-throughput workloads.
- Own complex technical delivery end-to-end, from product requirements and architecture through deployment and monitoring.
- Diagnose performance bottlenecks, optimize database queries, and improve backend resilience and reliability under load.
- Define architectural direction and communicate technical tradeoffs and recommendations.
- Mentor Software Engineers I, II, and III through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.
- Improve practices for code quality, testing, observability, and deployment.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, QA, and engineering teams to translate product goals into technical solutions.
- Participate in the on-call rotation, incident response, root-cause analysis, and long-term reliability improvements.
Requirements
- 5–8 years of professional software engineering experience, including significant production Ruby on Rails experience.
- Proven ability to own and deliver complex, multi-component features in a team environment.
- Experience designing and operating backend systems at significant scale and complexity.
- Strong familiarity with large-scale, high-throughput distributed systems and event-driven architecture.
- Expert Ruby on Rails proficiency and idiomatic Ruby development skills.
- Strong PostgreSQL skills, including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Experience with API design, serialization strategies, and versioning.
- Experience with background job processing such as Sidekiq and asynchronous workflows.
- Experience with Docker containerization and Kubernetes orchestration.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and observability practices including logging, metrics, and tracing.
- Working knowledge of Go and comfort operating autonomously on ambiguous problems.
- Effective communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders and experience in a fully remote engineering organization.
- Preferred qualifications include AI-assisted development experience, greenfield services experience, event streaming with Kafka, Pulsar, or NATS, and Infrastructure as Code familiarity with Ansible, Helm, or Terraform.
