Base Salary
$175k - $210k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build and ship internal AI tools and features from initial concept through deployment and maintenance.
- Set technical direction and reusable engineering patterns for the AI Engineering team.
- Design and deploy LLM and agentic systems involving retrieval, tool use, orchestration, evaluation, and guardrails.
- Partner with engineering, hardware, operations, and other teams to turn ideas into working tools.
- Create shared components, templates, and infrastructure that enable other teams to build faster.
- Optimize models and systems for cost, latency, reliability, usage, and quality.
- Mentor teammates, document work, write tests, conduct code reviews, and raise engineering standards.
- Own projects independently and determine when work should be completed or stopped cleanly.
Requirements
- Deep software-engineering expertise and a strong record of shipping and operating production software at scale, primarily in Python.
- Substantial hands-on experience building LLM-powered applications, including prompt and agent design, tool or function calling, MCP-based integrations, retrieval-augmented generation, and evaluation.
- Proven experience designing or integrating agentic systems and coding workflows that safely act against real systems.
- Ability to architect and deliver end to end across backend services, APIs, light front-end, and deployment.
- High autonomy, strong ownership, sound architectural judgment, and ability to work effectively in ambiguity.
- Demonstrated impact through shipped software, rapid real-world delivery, publications, open-source work, or research contributions.
- Strong communication, mentoring, and ability to translate non-expert needs into working tools.
- Preferred: LLMOps or MLOps experience with model serving, monitoring, evaluations, and cost or latency optimization.
- Preferred: data and ML engineering experience with pipelines, embeddings, vector databases, and model fine-tuning or adaptation.
- Preferred: PyTorch and experience building or adapting generative models such as diffusion or image-generation models.
- Preferred: React, TypeScript, modern coding agents, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD tooling, or experience in scientific, hardware, lab-automation, or complex operational environments.
