Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and evolve reusable production-grade React components, platform patterns, APIs, and services.
- Lead projects from problem definition and technical design through implementation, launch, measurement, and iteration across frontend and backend systems.
- Shape scalable package architecture, service boundaries, API contracts, data models, theming, testing, release processes, and migration approaches.
- Build tools, integrations, and structured design-system experiences that enable AI agents and makers to use ADS accurately, including MCP-based capabilities.
- Create secure, observable, maintainable backend capabilities for design-system tooling, content, adoption workflows, and developer experiences.
- Prototype new concepts with design technologists and mature valuable ideas into reliable product experiences.
- Improve accessibility, performance, visual quality, security, observability, reliability, maintainability, developer tooling, automation, documentation, and workflows.
- Partner across Atlassian on adoption, staged rollouts, migrations, and consistent implementation.
- Provide technical leadership by breaking down complex work, identifying risks, communicating trade-offs, and influencing technical direction.
- Establish engineering standards for testing, observability, API design, operational readiness, secure development, and sustainable ownership.
- Mentor engineers, participate in design and code reviews, share knowledge, and contribute to engineering culture.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional software development experience building, scaling, and operating high-impact production-grade full-stack applications.
- Extensive hands-on expertise with modern JavaScript/TypeScript, React.js or similar component frameworks, Next.js, state management, web performance optimization, and web accessibility standards.
- Experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable backend services, microservices, RESTful or GraphQL APIs, and relational or NoSQL data persistence layers.
- Experience with backend technologies such as Node.js, Java, Kotlin, Go, or Python.
- Experience deploying and operating services on cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and using Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and observability or telemetry tooling.
- Demonstrated technical leadership across multiple squads or domains, including technical strategy, RFCs or design documents, architectural trade-offs, and technical-debt management.
- Deep understanding of resilience, performance, fault tolerance, security, and multi-tenant architectures.
- Commitment to engineering quality through coaching, mentoring, code reviews, and best practices.
- Strong cross-functional communication skills for translating technical trade-offs into business outcomes for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
