Responsibilities
- Architect and build scalable, secure, and resilient backend systems using Java or Kotlin.
- Design and implement core components across cloud-native services using Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud platforms.
- Develop and enhance Sonatype’s software supply chain security products, including Nexus Repository and Nexus IQ.
- Build full stack applications with backend services, frontend experiences, and cloud-native architecture.
- Collaborate with product management, engineering, design, and other cross-functional teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Integrate security into software development and build and deployment automation processes.
- Provide architectural guidance, conduct code reviews, and mentor engineering teams.
- Improve testing, observability, reliability, performance, platform scalability, data processing pipelines, and distributed system architecture.
- Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and long-term reliability improvements.
- Evaluate and integrate open-source tools and libraries.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in a Staff Engineer or equivalent technical leadership role.
- Experience designing and building scalable, production-grade full stack applications.
- Strong proficiency with Java and/or Kotlin for backend development.
- Experience building backend services and microservices.
- Proficiency with React.
- Experience with cloud-native architecture and deploying applications to AWS.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with secure software development practices and integrating security into full stack applications.
- Experience with automated testing, build and deployment pipelines, and modern DevOps workflows.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience working in an agile environment and collaborating across engineering, product, and design teams.
- Experience mentoring and coaching engineers.
- Preferred experience with OWASP, SAST, DAST, Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS Lambda, API Gateway, serverless architectures, or open-source contributions.
