Embedded Linux Software Engineer – Robotics Platform (DeviceOS)

Responsibilities
- Own and debug the complete embedded boot path, including firmware, U-Boot/UEFI, unified kernel images, initrd, encrypted storage unlock, and NixOS handoff.
- Customize and sustain vendor BSPs, including Tegra/Jetson Linux and NXP platforms, and maintain kernel and device-tree patches across OS upgrades.
- Ensure cameras, radars, motor controllers, CAN networks, radios, and other peripherals enumerate deterministically and operate reliably.
- Maintain signed boot chains, disk encryption, kernels, and low-level system components across a deployed robotic fleet, including remediating CVEs.
- Build and maintain automated Hardware-in-the-Loop test suites for power states, bus communication, and platform stability.
- Diagnose boot hangs, kernel panics, bus errors, thermal and power throttling, and other hardware/software issues using serial consoles, logic analyzers, dmesg, and schematics.
- Triage upstream kernel and vendor BSP issues, create fixes when needed, and carry patches forward as platforms evolve.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of professional embedded Linux platform, deployed embedded Linux sustainment, or kernel-adjacent integration experience.
- Deep understanding of embedded Linux boot chains, including U-Boot, EDK2, device trees, kernel command lines, initrd/initramfs, and root filesystem assembly.
- Strong C programming skills for kernel, driver, and BSP work, plus proficiency in Rust or C++ for userspace platform integration and services.
- Hands-on hardware debugging experience with serial consoles, schematics, component datasheets, and board-level tracing.
- Experience maintaining software deployed on real-world hardware with safe, resilient, and regression-validated updates.
- U.S. Person status is required under ITAR/EAR export controls, with eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
- Preferred qualifications include Nix/NixOS, Yocto, Buildroot, NVIDIA Jetson/Tegra, JetPack, CUDA, hardware root of trust, secure boot, HAB/AHAB, measured boot, TPM, Python or Bash HIL testing, Haskell, and upstream Linux or U-Boot contributions.
