Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of complex systems and features from design through long-term production operation.
- Decompose ambiguous customer and business problems into concrete, shippable work and implement the resulting solutions.
- Design and maintain data models, APIs, database schemas, migrations, and system contracts that support iteration and scale.
- Own production monitoring, SLAs, incident diagnosis, root-cause analysis, and proactive risk reduction for built systems.
- Partner with Product, Design, Data Analytics, Lifecycle Comms, and other functions to solve customer problems collaboratively.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, design feedback, and incident retrospectives.
- Improve engineering processes, tools, and on-call practices.
- Build with TypeScript, GraphQL, Temporal, Postgres, and AWS, while evaluating new tools as appropriate.
- Use AI tools pragmatically while remaining able to explain, debug, and maintain shipped work.
Requirements
- 6–8+ years of software engineering experience.
- Strong full-stack engineering experience across frontend and backend systems.
- Significant experience building and operating production systems where defects can affect revenue or customer trust.
- Experience owning features end to end and making defensible architectural decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including documenting decisions, tradeoffs, and practices.
- Effective problem-solving, prioritization, attention to detail, curiosity, and proactive ownership.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment.
- Pragmatic judgment about when to use AI and other new tools.
- Experience with the stated technology stack is a plus.
- Love of dogs.

The Farmer’s Dog was created by two dog lovers to radically improve the $100 billion global pet food industry — starting with a subscription service that sends freshly-made food directly to customers’ doors. Brett Podolsky’s dog Jada suffered from severe stomach issues for the first two years of her life, before he tried home-cooking for her on the advice of a vet. Seemingly overnight, she was cured.
