
Software Consulting Engineer – T&D Configuration Systems and software solutions
GE VernovaResponsibilities
- Define the architecture and evolution of scalable, modular, and secure T&D configuration platforms.
- Set technical strategy and oversee software design using .NET, Java, Python, and TypeScript for desktop, edge, and cloud deployments.
- Integrate IEC 61850 SCL-based ICD, SCD, and SSD engineering workflows into automated tooling.
- Coordinate software architecture across firmware, UI/UX, power systems, cybersecurity, systems, and hardware teams.
- Oversee configuration and commissioning tools for protection and control devices and their integration with SCADA, DMS, EMS, and other utility systems.
- Conduct architecture and software reviews and manage the software lifecycle from requirements through deployment and support.
- Drive software component reuse, platform consistency, technology roadmaps, product strategy, and intellectual-property generation.
- Mentor software engineers and represent the organization in customer engagements, RFPs, industry events, and technical forums.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- Extensive software engineering experience, including experience in technical leadership or software architecture.
- Proven experience delivering software for T&D systems, energy automation, or industrial control domains.
- Expertise with IEC 61850, CIM, IEC 61968/70, and IEC 62351 utility standards and protocols.
- Strong skills in .NET, Java, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, UI frameworks, backend systems, and containerized or cloud deployments.
- Knowledge of data modeling, API integration, network communications, and cybersecurity practices.
- Experience with configuration management systems, substation design tools, and SCADA/DMS/EMS integration is highly desirable.
- Experience operating in a matrixed global organization and managing distributed engineering teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, leadership, communication, and cross-functional influence skills.
- Thought leadership through publications, standards participation, or conference speaking, and willingness to travel.
Benefits
- Discretionary annual bonus eligibility.
- Canadian-based annual pay range of $162,900.00 to $244,300.00 CAD.
- U.S.-based annual pay range of $152,400.00 to $254,000.00 USD.
- Geographic salary differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% in certain U.S. areas.
- Travel may be required for customer engagements, internal collaboration, and industry events.
