Base Salary

$167k - $231k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Build and improve product features that expand access to Upstart’s Auto Secured Personal Loan product and support origination growth.
  • Design and deliver customer-facing funnel improvements, eligibility logic, and workflow automation.
  • Develop durable, scalable engineering solutions for future secured lending product expansion.
  • Partner with product, operations, risk, and engineering teams to evaluate customer experience, risk, complexity, and speed-to-market tradeoffs.
  • Contribute to technical direction by identifying implementation risks, improving execution standards, and communicating decisions.
  • Support high-quality delivery through system design, testing, observability, and cross-functional alignment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, plus 4+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Experience designing, building, testing, and deploying production software systems.
  • Experience developing customer-facing product features, platform capabilities, or backend services in production.
  • Experience collaborating with product management, design, analytics, operations, legal, or compliance partners.
  • Experience making technical tradeoffs involving reliability, maintainability, scalability, and delivery timelines.
  • Knowledge of consumer lending, fintech, marketplaces, or regulated product environments is preferred.
  • Experience with conversion funnels, eligibility systems, decisioning workflows, or operational automation is preferred.
  • Ability to address ambiguous product and technical problems using data, judgment, and clear communication.
  • Experience influencing technical direction and aligning stakeholders without direct authority is preferred.
