Responsibilities

  • Own cross-stack performance problems from the browser through back-end services and the operating system, and establish troubleshooting standards and playbooks.
  • Define and institutionalize performance NFRs and SLOs, including latency percentiles, throughput, ramp profiles, and error budgets, and provide final performance sign-off for platform releases.
  • Drive proactive performance engineering through bottleneck detection, architectural guidance, capacity modeling, and runtime tuning.
  • Build scalable, self-service performance testing tooling and infrastructure across teams.
  • Design and maintain automated load, stress, soak, spike, and capacity test suites with environment-aware execution.
  • Embed performance gates into CI/CD pipelines and build dashboards correlating test signals with production telemetry.
  • Architect and govern agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows for code review, test generation, release readiness, incident triage, and root-cause analysis.
  • Establish guardrails for validation, security, resiliency, auditability, traceability, sensitive-data handling, and reuse of AI-enabled development workflows.

Requirements

  • Typically 12+ years of performance engineering experience with high-traffic distributed systems and a strong broader software engineering foundation.
  • Deep hands-on experience debugging distributed-system performance to the system-call boundary, including strong JVM internals knowledge.
  • Fluency in Java, Node.js, and React, including browser-stack performance debugging.
  • Hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, self-managed Kubernetes, and EKS.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux performance tooling, JVM tuning, containers, and operating-system troubleshooting under load.
  • Expertise in workload modeling, queuing theory, statistical analysis of latency and throughput, percentile-based SLOs, and error budgets.
  • Expertise with at least one industry-standard load and protocol testing tool such as JMeter, BlazeMeter, or k6, plus scripting and orchestration in Java, Python, or TypeScript.
  • Strong observability and APM experience with tools such as Dynatrace or OpenTelemetry, RUM and synthetic monitoring, and dashboarding in Kibana or Grafana.
  • Ability to influence senior technical leaders, communicate performance trade-offs, set engineering standards, and build scalable self-service tooling and practices.
  • Experience leading agentic AI-enabled development practices, including human-in-the-loop validation, auditability, traceability, secure sensitive-data handling, and responsible AI governance.
  • Preferred experience includes financial-services scale, low-latency or regulated systems, data-platform performance optimization, service virtualization, fault injection, cloud-native load testing, service mesh technologies, advanced performance tooling, and practical LLM use in engineering workflows.

Benefits

  • Competitive total rewards package with base salary determined by role, experience, skill set, and location; eligible roles may also receive commission-based pay or discretionary incentive compensation.
  • Benefits may include comprehensive health care coverage, on-site health and wellness centers, retirement savings, backup childcare, tuition reimbursement, mental health support, and financial coaching.
  • Employment offers are contingent on review of criminal conviction history under Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.
