Responsibilities
- Own commodity balances through computation, validation, production release, and post-release on-call support.
- Resolve critical bugs and incidents across pipelines, databases, and distribution APIs, and create preventative runbook documentation.
- Extend Prophet-based anomaly detection and data-quality gates to reduce false positives and detect bad data before publication.
- Generalize the Supply & Demand data model and shared ETL framework for additional commodities.
- Design and deliver project milestones, write and review ADRs, and participate in design reviews.
- Build and evolve TypeScript distribution APIs used by the web application and external clients.
- Mentor and onboard junior engineers through pairing, code review, and support.
- Partner with Research, Product, and Data teams to turn ambiguous data needs into deliverable engineering work.
- Improve observability and monitoring across DAGs and services and manage crew escalations.
- Participate in hiring loops as an interviewer.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of software engineering experience delivering production systems.
- Experience owning a non-trivial feature or service end-to-end, including design, deployment, monitoring, and production fixes.
- Strong Python skills for data-heavy work, including tools such as pandas or polars, SQLAlchemy or an equivalent ORM, and relational database schema evolution.
- Experience debugging and operating production data pipelines and performing on-call or first-responder duties for systems built by the candidate.
- Ability to shape ambiguous problems into delivered solutions independently.
- Desirable experience with Airflow, Astronomer, workflow orchestration, batch or ETL pipelines, and TypeScript/Node API development.
- Desirable familiarity with NestJS, Express, tsoa, TypeORM, commodities or other messy multi-provider data domains, mentoring, anomaly detection, forecasting, Prophet, scikit-learn, or data-quality tooling.
