Responsibilities
- Design and implement observability frameworks using metrics, logs, and distributed tracing.
- Develop dashboards, alerts, and visualizations to monitor system health and improve signal quality.
- Standardize logging, telemetry, and tracing practices across engineering teams.
- Implement and manage AWS-native monitoring tools, including Amazon CloudWatch, AWS X-Ray, and AWS Distro for OpenTelemetry.
- Build intelligent alerting systems, reduce alert fatigue and false positives, and participate in on-call rotations.
- Identify reliability risks and proactively improve system resilience and SLO compliance.
- Embed observability into applications by adding tracing and metrics and standardizing logging formats.
- Support observability for microservices, serverless applications, and AWS data services.
- Collaborate with development, platform/infrastructure, security, and operations teams.
Requirements
- Experience in SRE, DevOps, or cloud engineering.
- Experience with AWS and services including CloudWatch, X-Ray, Lambda, ECS, EKS, API Gateway, RDS, DynamoDB, and S3.
- Hands-on experience with an observability tool such as Dynatrace, Splunk, Datadog, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, or AWS Distro for OpenTelemetry.
- Strong understanding of containers and orchestration, including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code using Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Preferred experience building observability platforms at scale in AWS.
- Preferred familiarity with multi-account AWS environments.
- Preferred experience optimizing observability costs for logging and metrics ingestion.
- Preferred experience with high-scale distributed systems.
