Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable backend services and data-intensive APIs using Java, Spring Boot, or equivalent frameworks.
- Design, maintain, and optimize high-performance PostgreSQL schemas, SQL, PL/pgSQL functions, stored procedures, indexes, partitions, and data models.
- Perform database query tuning, execution-plan analysis, performance troubleshooting, monitoring, and parameter tuning.
- Manage database backup, recovery, disaster recovery, replication, high availability, and failover mechanisms.
- Implement PostgreSQL Row-Level Security, role-based access control, fine-grained privileges, masking, encryption, auditing, and security assessments.
- Integrate database changes with CI/CD pipelines, schema migrations, version control, containerized environments, deployment automation, and monitoring.
- Collaborate with frontend, DevOps, and cross-functional teams on backend integration, environment setup, performance tuning, and release management.
- Help futureproof critical GIS inventory systems supporting the Openreach full-fibre network rollout.
Requirements
- Strong backend development experience with Java and Spring Boot or similar frameworks.
- Deep expertise in PostgreSQL, including advanced SQL, PL/pgSQL, PostGIS, query optimization, and database performance tuning.
- Experience with database security principles, Row-Level Security, role-based access control, data protection, and vulnerability reviews.
- Experience with high-availability setups, streaming or logical replication, failover, backup and recovery, and disaster recovery.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and Linux environments.
- Experience with AWS RDS or Aurora, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, or GCP Cloud SQL is desirable.
- Knowledge of Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Docker, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure-as-Code is desirable.
