Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, maintain, and debug performant gameplay architecture and player-experience systems for console and PC.
  • Design, develop, maintain, and debug game AI systems including NPC behaviors, navigation, decision-making, and encounter integration.
  • Analyze and optimize gameplay and AI performance through profiling, CPU and memory budgeting, time-slicing, and behavioral level of detail where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with level design, game design, art, VFX, programming, QA, and production on requirements, feasibility, scope, design completeness, and technical risks.
  • Iterate with design using data-driven tuning, in-game debugging tools, and validation, while proposing maintainable solutions for live production.
  • Identify cross-team dependencies, align disciplines, calibrate quality to project phase and milestones, and incorporate QA and playtest feedback.
  • Participate in code reviews, provide technical validation, mentor teammates, and create technical design and architecture documentation.
  • Track developments in the engine and gameplay and AI practices and contribute to continuous improvement of high-performance software.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of C++ programming experience in the video game industry.
  • Contributed to at least two AAA titles, including at least one shipped console/PC game; open-world, action-adventure, or narrative experience is strongly valued.
  • Strong command of C++ object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, templates, and multithreaded programming.
  • Strong experience with gameplay and AI software architecture, including interactive systems, gameplay features, behaviors, pathfinding, navigation, decision systems, encounters, and maintainability at scale.
  • Experience with large-scale programming for consoles and PC across prototyping, production, delivery, and post-launch work such as DLC and title updates.
  • Skills in optimization and debugging on PC and consoles, including performance analysis and improvement recommendations.
  • Strong 3D mathematics knowledge, including linear algebra, trigonometry, vectors, matrices, and quaternions, plus understanding of animation constraints.
  • Proficiency with Unreal Engine 5 for gameplay and AI integration, including gameplay framework, State Trees, EQS, navigation, and gameplay feature integration.
  • Knowledge of Perforce, JIRA, and bug-tracking tools.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, initiative, teamwork, professional rigor, and the ability to work autonomously.
  • Ability to prioritize work with production, calibrate deliverable quality to context, advance ambiguous technical topics, and guide less experienced team members.
