Responsibilities

  • Set the architecture and roadmap for the Data Platform and its storage ecosystem.
  • Build tooling for moving, splitting, validating, and rolling back large-scale data migrations across cells, regions, and geographies with minimal downtime.
  • Enable product teams to provision, operate, and scale their own storage through self-service capabilities and shared libraries.
  • Drive data-layer changes for cell-based architecture, including data placement, tenant routing, replication, and isolation.
  • Define and apply a managed-first approach to data services, operating self-managed systems only when justified.
  • Identify and address scalability gaps across data stores, regions, cells, and deployment models.
  • Partner closely with Cloud Platform, SRE, and DevEx teams.
  • Raise architectural standards, mentor Staff and Senior engineers, and lead significant technical roadmaps.
  • Apply AI tooling to data platform work such as slow-query reviews and incident diagnosis.

Requirements

  • Deep hands-on experience designing and operating data platforms and storage systems.
  • Production experience with large-scale storage systems such as MongoDB, ClickHouse, Redis, and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with cloud-native data storage and managed data services on AWS.
  • Strong experience with Kubernetes and containers.
  • Experience designing and running large-scale live data migrations.
  • Experience with cell-based, multi-tenant, or multi-region architectures.
  • Experience building platforms and tooling used by other engineers and operating under a model where teams own and run their storage.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver significant code changes in systems owned by other teams.
  • Experience identifying data scalability and reliability limits before they cause incidents.
  • Ability and desire to design, lead, influence, and deliver ambitious technical roadmaps.
  • Preferred experience running storage systems on Kubernetes, building control planes with Crossplane, and supporting private, isolated, on-premises, or air-gapped deployments.

Benefits

  • Performance-based bonus, equity, and a generous benefits program are available in addition to base compensation.
