Responsibilities
- Own solution architecture and technical strategy for Product Engineering across its squads.
- Provide technical direction and architectural oversight for major projects and product programmes.
- Set design standards and ensure solutions are scalable, flexible, resilient, and secure.
- Act as the technical escalation point for cross-squad architectural decisions.
- Align architectural decisions, delivery sequencing, and technical dependencies with programme managers and product owners.
- Drive architecture standardization, governance, and specialization practices across Product Engineering, Data & AI, and Cloud Engineering.
- Review third-party, vendor, and systems integrator designs and implementations against Fastmarkets’ architecture standards.
- Co-own the cross-organization community of practice for AI-enabled product development lifecycle practices.
- Identify, prioritize, and address Product Engineering’s domain-specific AI use cases.
- Champion AI-assisted development tools and practices across Product Engineering.
- Define the technical specialist career pathway, including levels and capabilities for deep technical specialists.
Requirements
- 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years at an architecture or senior technical leadership level.
- Proven experience as a solution architect or technical architect setting technical direction and design standards across multiple teams or squads.
- Strong software architecture fundamentals covering distributed systems, microservices, API design, service-oriented architecture, and cloud-native patterns.
- Experience defining or contributing to technical standards, governance, and engineering best practices across multiple teams.
- Experience acting as an architect on large, multi-team product programmes and working with programme managers, product owners, third-party suppliers, and systems integrators.
- Track record of taking AI or GenAI capabilities from prototype through reliable, monitored production systems.
- Understanding of agentic or multi-agent AI system design, including orchestration patterns, tool use, and agent coordination.
- Working knowledge of retrieval-augmented generation, including ingestion, chunking, embeddings, vector search, and production retrieval pipelines.
- Experience leading or significantly influencing an AI-enabled product development lifecycle.
- Ability to engage credibly with senior technical and business stakeholders while also working through technical detail.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across Product Engineering, Data & AI, and Cloud Engineering.
- Fastmarkets primarily operates on Microsoft Azure.
