Responsibilities
- Own the rendering quality, power efficiency, and performance of spatial UI and RealityView.
- Evolve the rendering pipeline that brings Core Animation content into RealityKit.
- Develop GPU techniques, shaders, and render-pass optimizations for clear and efficient spatial UI.
- Design texture resolution, filtering, foveated rendering, and multi-view rendering strategies.
- Integrate app UI and 3D content in RealityView and shape its developer-facing behavior and APIs.
- Diagnose and resolve GPU performance, power, memory, frame pacing, and cross-layer rendering issues.
- Collaborate with Core Animation, UIKit, AppKit, SwiftUI, Metal, and GPU teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in real-time graphics or rendering engine development.
- Experience independently owning and shipping significant rendering features end to end.
- Proficiency in C++ and shader programming languages including Metal Shading Language, GLSL, or HLSL.
- Understanding of texture sampling, filtering, resolution management, GPU memory management, and frame pacing.
- Familiarity with foveated rendering, multi-view rendering, or other advanced real-time rendering techniques.
- Experience using profiling tools such as Instruments, RenderDoc, PIX, or Perfetto to resolve GPU performance, power, or memory issues.
- Experience debugging complex rendering issues across multiple software layers.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including driving alignment across partner teams.
- Preferred: master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, or a related field.
- Preferred: 7+ years of experience shipping real-time rendering features in high-profile consumer products.
- Preferred: deep knowledge of Core Animation, UIKit, AppKit, or comparable UI rendering systems.
- Preferred: proficiency in Swift and experience designing developer-facing APIs, ideally in SwiftUI or another declarative framework.
- Preferred: expertise in high-quality text and vector rendering, anti-aliasing, subpixel precision, and resolution-independent clarity.
- Preferred: familiarity with cross-process GPU resource sharing such as IOSurface or shared texture handles and multi-process rendering architectures.
