Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate Search APIs and semantic search systems serving highly relevant content to millions of users in real time.
- Lead semantic retrieval and ranking pipelines, including embedding generation, vector indexing, and relevance tuning.
- Act as technical lead by driving architecture decisions, writing technical design documents, and setting engineering standards.
- Collaborate with Product Managers and Brand partners to define search quality goals, engineering initiatives, and impact measurements.
- Mentor and grow engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and technical guidance.
- Promote the use of AI coding agents such as Claude Code to improve development velocity and code quality.
- Manage infrastructure as code with Terraform and Chef and maintain Jenkins CI/CD pipelines.
- Containerize and deploy services with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Own search-service reliability and observability, including SLOs, dashboards, incident response, and post-mortems.
- Improve engineering processes and developer experience across the team.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience.
- Experience designing and scaling search or information retrieval systems, including semantic search, embeddings, and vector databases.
- Experience implementing RESTful APIs.
- Experience implementing, testing, deploying, troubleshooting, and supporting multi-region, multi-environment systems with CI/CD, high availability, and disaster recovery.
- Experience with Terraform, Chef, and Jenkins.
- Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes for containerized deployments.
- Experience as a technical lead or senior individual contributor owning architecture and guiding engineering teams.
- Experience translating business needs into scalable technical solutions with product managers and brand stakeholders.
- Comfort adopting AI-assisted development workflows.
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred.
