Responsibilities
- Define the technical direction and engineering strategy for core Rocket Pay payment domains.
- Design, operate, and improve large-scale distributed backend systems supporting massive payment transaction volumes.
- Own system architecture and end-to-end outcomes for reliability, scalability, security, performance, and data consistency.
- Lead architecture reviews, technical decisions, and migration efforts across complex services or domains.
- Support payment processing, wallet services, merchant onboarding, settlement, reconciliation, risk controls, and financial reporting systems.
- Respond to incidents, improve monitoring and SLAs, and strengthen operational excellence in high-traffic environments.
- Mentor and influence engineers through technical leadership, system design, and sound engineering judgment.
Requirements
- At least 12 years of backend engineering experience.
- Experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems using Java or Kotlin and the Spring Framework.
- Experience owning and proactively improving one or more complex services or domains.
- Ability to design systems with strong consideration for performance, reliability, data consistency, and security.
- Experience structuring ambiguous problems and making technical decisions that create tangible business impact.
- Ability to translate customer experience and business requirements into well-architected technical solutions.
- Preferred experience leading architecture design and migration in JPA- and MSA-based environments.
- Preferred experience developing and operating payment or fintech systems.
- Preferred experience with incident response, monitoring, and SLA improvement in high-traffic environments.
- Preferred experience processing large-scale data with strong settlement and reconciliation accuracy guarantees.
- Preferred technical leadership experience in agile software development environments.
- Preferred experience influencing other engineers through technical judgment and system design decisions.
