Responsibilities
- Design and implement search functionality in a PaaS ecommerce Scala backend.
- Develop lexical, semantic, and hybrid retrieval capabilities for product discovery.
- Build search-related libraries using ElasticSearch and MongoDB.
- Contribute to search relevance, quality measurement, and ranking evaluation.
- Operate scalable, multi-tenant search infrastructure on Kubernetes using Terraform.
- Test software components for usability, functionality, and performance while collaborating with Product Management and DevOps.
- Participate in a worldwide production on-call rotation.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of Software Engineering experience with production experience on the JVM.
- Solid understanding of parallel and asynchronous programming and non-blocking I/O.
- Experience developing REST APIs and understanding scalable architectures involving sharding, replication, load balancing, and failover.
- Interest in using Scala and pragmatic functional programming patterns, with support available for candidates coming from another JVM language.
- Experience operating multi-tenant SaaS environments and scalable event-driven architectures with queues and notification topics.
- Fluent English for international teamwork.
- Preferred qualifications include ElasticSearch or OpenSearch search experience, inverted-index scoring and ranking knowledge, vector retrieval exposure, relevance metrics knowledge, and experience with Helm, Kubernetes, or Rust.
- Curiosity about using AI tools to improve work effectiveness.
