Responsibilities
- Own and drive the enterprise mainframe architecture vision, strategy, standards, and roadmap.
- Lead and govern large-scale mainframe modernization and transformation initiatives, including re-hosting, re-platforming, refactoring, and re-architecting.
- Serve as the highest-level technical authority for IBM z/OS and mainframe-centered solutions.
- Provide architectural oversight for capacity planning, performance, scalability, resilience, cost optimization, security, compliance, and risk management.
- Guide hybrid cloud integration, API enablement, and DevOps adoption in mainframe environments.
- Partner with CIO/CTO, enterprise architecture, and senior stakeholders on technology and investment decisions.
- Evaluate tools, platforms, and vendor solutions and serve as an escalation authority for critical production and systemic issues.
- Lead design reviews, provide risk mitigation guidance, mentor architects and senior engineers, and establish engineering governance standards.
Requirements
- 15+ years of IT experience, including 10+ years in large-scale mainframe environments.
- Experience as a Mainframe Architect, Enterprise Architect, or Principal Engineer.
- Expert-level knowledge of IBM mainframe architecture, including z Systems, z/OS, Sysplex, and GDPS.
- Extensive experience with CICS, IMS, DB2, MQ, VSAM, and high-volume transaction systems.
- Strong knowledge of COBOL, PL/I, Assembler, JCL, Fujitsu GS21, performance engineering, workload management, and capacity planning.
- Deep understanding of mainframe security using RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret and of compliance frameworks.
- Experience integrating mainframe workloads with distributed systems, APIs, and AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Track record leading enterprise-scale modernization or transformation programs and working in regulated industries is preferred.
- Ability to operate at strategic and hands-on architectural levels and influence globally distributed teams.
- IBM certifications in z/OS, z Systems Architecture, DB2, or CICS are preferred.
- A master's degree is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
