Responsibilities
- Build and evolve scalable, channel-independent Core Commerce Services and checkout capabilities.
- Define APIs, domain boundaries, integration patterns, and architecture for a secure, reliable, observable, and maintainable platform.
- Contribute directly to production implementation from technical discovery and design through delivery.
- Align technical decisions and integration contracts across Checkout, Payment, and dependent teams.
- Mentor engineers through pairing, design discussions, code reviews, and technical feedback.
- Partner with Product to translate business needs into scalable solutions and foundations for AI-powered assistants, agentic commerce, and emerging channels.
Requirements
- Strong Java and backend engineering expertise with experience building backend services, platforms, and large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience operating at Staff or Principal level, or demonstrated equivalent senior technical leadership.
- Strong system design and architecture capabilities with significant technical ownership and autonomy.
- Ability to shape architecture, APIs, and domain boundaries in a greenfield or 0-to-1 environment.
- Ability to evaluate options, understand trade-offs, and make pragmatic technical decisions amid ambiguity.
- Strong record of mentoring engineers, leading through influence, and creating alignment across engineering domains.
- Experience with headless or traditional checkout, order management, SaaS/platform engineering, e-commerce, or marketplaces is a preferred qualification.
