Base Salary

$113k - $183k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain Java applications, microservices, and APIs supporting the Caterpillar MineStar ecosystem.
  • Lead end-to-end feature and technical initiative delivery using AI tooling and agentic workflows.
  • Orchestrate AI agents across requirements decomposition, solution design, implementation, test generation, documentation, code review, defect triage, root-cause analysis, and production support.
  • Validate AI-generated code and artifacts for correctness, security, maintainability, architectural fit, and production readiness.
  • Contribute to solution architecture, technical decisions, design artifacts, and architecture documentation for complex problems.
  • Establish quality gates and governance practices for responsible, traceable, and compliant AI-assisted development.
  • Participate in code and design reviews and improve software quality, performance, security, resilience, and reliability.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Quality Engineering to clarify requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Monitor services, troubleshoot incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and implement sustainable production fixes.
  • Create reusable agentic AI prompts, skills, workflow patterns, templates, and playbooks for MineStar teams.
  • Mentor engineers through pairing, coaching, demonstrations, and knowledge sharing.
  • Communicate progress, risks, dependencies, delivery evidence, lessons learned, and effective practices across engineering communities.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of relevant commercial software development experience.
  • Substantial hands-on Java development experience using Spring and Spring Boot.
  • Knowledge of distributed architecture, modern database design, security principles, secure coding, and resilient service design.
  • Experience with software build, testing, dependency management, CI/CD, DevOps tooling, automated testing, code review, observability, and software quality practices.
  • Ability to develop and use interactive custom agents and apply prompt engineering, agentic workflows, AI orchestration, and human-in-the-loop validation.
  • Ability to evaluate AI-generated code and artifacts for correctness, security, maintainability, architecture fit, and production readiness.
  • Experience providing technical leadership within a multidisciplinary software delivery team.
  • Experience creating reusable agentic AI patterns, prompts, skills, templates, and playbooks is preferred.
  • Experience supporting production operations, troubleshooting incidents, performing root-cause analysis, and implementing sustainable fixes is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, architectural, design, problem-solving, communication, coaching, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
