Base Salary
$161k - $262k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead projects and coordinate the activities and technical tasks of other engineers.
- Define outcomes, improve team processes, and provide technical guidance to senior leaders.
- Design, estimate, implement, and refactor secure, reliable, scalable software services.
- Own end-to-end design and implementation quality, service performance, and availability.
- Assess implementation alternatives and trade-offs to inform the technical engineering roadmap.
- Set and improve standards for engineering rigor in collaboration with management.
- Provide technical leadership for a small team and mentor engineers at all levels.
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering Operations, business, and support teams.
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide incident support.
- Represent PayPal in interactions with partners, customers, and industry organizations.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 8 years of experience with Python or an equivalent high-level programming language.
- Advanced experience with relational and NoSQL data stores, caching solutions, and messaging or queuing systems.
- Expertise building distributed backend services and systems.
- Experience building services on public cloud platforms, preferably AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Experience managing infrastructure as code with Terraform.
- Experience with fault-tolerant and scalable distributed services and systems.
- Ability to lead projects, mentor engineering staff, and manage cross-functional relationships.
